What OCCA believes Matrimony

Matrimony is a sacred sealing of the love of two people in the sight of God and in the community of their Church. As a family we express our joy that two people have found love and we encourage them to grow together (and old) with God. In OCCA the happy couple may be married using the ritual most common to their community (Western, Eastern or Oriental). Matrimony is a permanent sacrament (so long as both people shall live). Although OCCA recognizes that matrimony is permanent, we also realize that human beings are not perfect. Divorce and re-marriage are not of themselves impediments to receiving Holy Communion. Because God gives gifts to many people in diverse ways, OCCA celebrate same-gender unions with the same dignity and permanence as mixed-gender unions. At the heart of this matter is that committed people are called to mirror the covenant love of God.
